The Kentwood Board of Education on April 20 approved a resolution recommending nonrenewal of an administrator’s contract, entered a closed session to consider discipline of a public employee and, after returning to open session, approved the reinstatement of Student A.
Trustee Allen Young moved, supported by Vice President Sylvia James, to approve a resolution recommending nonrenewal of an administrator contract; the minutes record a roll-call vote and note that the motion carried. The minutes do not name the administrator or provide vote tallies beyond “motion carried.”
Later in the meeting, Trustee Kim Taboada-Arzate moved, supported by Treasurer Pete Battey, that the board enter closed session pursuant to Section 8(1)(a) of the Michigan Open Meetings Act (MCL 15.268(1)(a)) to consider the discipline of a public employee. The minutes record the motion carried and the board began closed session at 6:53 P.M.; the public minutes do not disclose closed-session discussion or outcomes.
After returning to open session, Treasurer Pete Battey moved, supported by Trustee Marlon Brown, to approve the reinstatement of Student A; the motion carried and the minutes note open session resumed at 7:10 P.M. The minutes use the redaction “Student A” and provide no further detail about the underlying disciplinary matter or conditions of reinstatement.
The board’s public minutes do not include detailed roll-call vote tallies for these personnel items nor the identity of the administrator referenced in the nonrenewal resolution. Human Resources and Board staff are listed in attendance in the meeting record; the board packet (not reproduced in the minutes) may contain additional personnel documents.
