Hardeeville approves $13,725 sponsorship for Low Country Pickle Ball Classic

Rick Wright, president of the Pickle Ball Club, told the Hardeeville board the Low Country Pickle Ball Classic — held each April — draws roughly 400 players, about 200 of whom travel more than 50 miles to attend. "Our tournament is held every April ... we're expecting around 400 players to come in," Wright said, adding that participants stay in local hotels and eat at area restaurants.
Wright said the tournament spends primarily on participant shirts and that the organizers lean on an ATAX grant to cover that cost. He told the board the amount requested in the packet was $13,725 for the event’s expenses. "The majority of that goes toward the shirts that we do for everybody," he said.
Wright also noted that 12 new courts at Sun City West are finished but cannot be used yet because the amenity center has not received final clearance for occupancy. He cautioned the event cannot expand beyond once a year because volunteer capacity is limited.
After discussion about logo size and shirt color (Wright welcomed use of Hardeeville brand colors on the shirts), a member moved to approve the sponsorship request, another seconded and members indicated their approval by voice; the motion passed. Wright said any unspent funds are returned to the sponsor.
