At its Dec. 18 meeting, the Greenwood 51 school board approved routine business and three formal actions.
The board approved the minutes from the Nov. 18 meeting and the agenda as presented by voice vote following motions from the floor. The board also approved a field trip request for Worrell Middle School to conduct campus tours in Charlotte, N.C., scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2025.
On personnel, Superintendent Daniel Crockett recommended the hire of Juliana Gomez through the exchange company FAES as a Spanish teacher for the 2025–26 academic year; the board approved the recommendation by voice vote. Crockett explained that the exchange company had exhausted visas for the current school year, so the hire would begin next school year.
The board heard the monthly finance report, where the athletic activity fund showed a negative beginning balance (reported roughly as -2,500,570) tied to equipment purchases; staff said expected revenues and fundraisers will offset the balance. The superintendent also reported that a five-year state and federal compliance audit was completed with no compliance issues and that federal funds for the district have not yet been released for the year.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which carried by voice vote.
