Greenwood 51 presented results of a community stakeholder survey and a superintendent update at the Dec. 18 board meeting.
Blake Bishop, who led the presentation, said the district received 72 total survey responses—about 56 from parents and guardians with the remainder from students and community members. Respondents praised the district’s family-oriented culture, safety efforts and strong teacher connections, and highlighted a desire for more advance communication about events. “We did this through Facebook, calls to action, text messages, QR codes…we really did try to go out as much as we could to get some feedback,” Bishop said.
Bishop and board members discussed next steps to improve outreach: targeted social-media posts, texts and QR-code deployment at events, plus follow-up by district leadership for respondents who left contact information.
Superintendent Daniel Crockett gave a broad update on district operations and safety. He said the district conducted a full reunification drill in August and established a district command to coordinate emergency messaging and logistics. “There’s no place I’d rather be in our district. I love the work that takes place day-to-day,” Crockett said, and he highlighted academic gains for grades 3–8 in state testing and recognition for the middle school.
Crockett also noted operational items: completion of a five-year state and federal compliance audit with no compliance issues and an employee Christmas bonus that the board had approved and awarded days earlier. He reported that federal funds for the district have not yet been released for the year and that staff are awaiting that funding to offset general-fund spending.
Board members thanked staff for outreach work and for producing survey detail in the packet; district leadership said they will follow up on suggestions and report back to the board.
