The Greenwood District 51 school board approved an unbudgeted $9,500 expenditure to repair erosion damage at the school amphitheater caused by a recent storm.
Superintendent Dr Daniel Crockett told the board the amphitheater bank had been washed out by a torrential downpour and said photos and bid documents were in the board packet. Procurement returned more than three bids; the administration recommended contracting to bring fill dirt, pack and regrade the lower area (described as the bullpen/pitcher mouth) and address the drain. Dr Crockett said a paving company had done work to divert water and that the district had cleared storm drains to reduce repeat problems.
A motion to approve the $9,500 repair was made and seconded; a board member asked how soon work could begin and the superintendent said contractors could start as early as the following day. The motion passed by voice vote.
The item was described in the meeting as an unbudgeted expense; the superintendent asked that, if approved, the contractor be authorized to start immediately to meet football‑season timing.
