Union City manager reports on sidewalks, school crossing study and summer help arrangements

Borough Manager Cindy Wells provided a series of administrative updates at the July 9 meeting.
She said the TA Set‑Aside sidewalk project is scheduled to begin Monday, July 15, and noted a South County EMS study virtual meeting for council on July 11. The feasibility study for a proposed school crossing was approved and council agreed to use WRA, LLP, the county’s appointed engineer, for the work. Wells also publicized upcoming meetings and service awards, including a health‑insurance presentation to council members scheduled for July 30.
On parks and grounds maintenance, council reviewed three mowing quotes (ranging from $750 to $1,200) and approved Capela Landscape to do four weeks of mowing beginning July 8, with the option to continue. Adecco referred an individual who could serve as summer help for public works at about $18 per hour for roughly 32 hours per week.
Wells noted the RT 97 grant budget includes $10,000 for engineering and inspection but warned that project delays, contractor inefficiency or encountering rock could increase monitoring costs that the borough would need to cover.
