Union City to seek 'Broadband Ready' designation; council authorizes public meeting and EACOG as municipal champion

Union City Borough Council voted unanimously to proceed with the Broadband Ready Communities process and to authorize the Erie Area Council of Governments (EACOG) to serve as the municipal broadband champion.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells said the resolution would create opportunities for internet service providers to enter the borough and noted the borough’s permitting requirements are within program recommendations. Council agreed to schedule the public meeting required by the program and to have the solicitor prepare the resolution for formal adoption.
Councilor Kerns moved and Councilor Joyce seconded the motion to proceed; the minutes record the motion carried unanimously.
