Heather Holm, a pollinator conservationist and author, briefed the council and Park Board on Legacy Grant opportunities for ecological restoration and described examples from Minnetonka parks. The Park Board unanimously recommended pursuing a Legacy Grant for buckthorn removal and habitat restoration at Burton Park, where three biomes converge.
Councilmember John Studer moved and Tony Jewett seconded that staff be authorized to move forward with the Legacy Grant process; the motion carried 3-0.
Staff will coordinate application materials with the Park Board and proposed partners and return with grant materials and scope as the application progresses.
