The Town Council of Jackson voted July 15 to accept a $22,380 bid from Advanced Athletic Surfaces to resurface the tennis courts at Thornton Park. Councilmember Clay Holley moved to award the contract, to be funded 80% by a PARD grant and 20% from Capital Project sales-tax funds earmarked for parks; Councilmember Todd Etheredge seconded and the vote was unanimous.
Council discussed bidder qualifications and declined to accept the lowest bid because the bidder supplied insufficient references and had completed fewer tennis-court projects than other bidders. Councilmember Jordan Willingham noted that a large tree over the court will need trimming before or during the resurfacing work.
The contract award authorizes staff to proceed with the resurfacing procurement under the stated funding split; the council did not set specific commencement dates at the meeting.
