Jackson council approves Town Hall camera replacement, SRO radios and vehicle, and renews CivicPlus agreement

Jackson’s Town Council voted unanimously on several operational purchases and contract renewals at its Aug. 12 meeting, approving a new camera system for Town Hall, equipment for a newly designated School Resource Officer (SRO), and multiple agreements meant to support town services.
Councilmember Todd Etheredge moved to enter into an agreement with Vector Security and purchase a replacement camera system for Town Hall; the motion passed unanimously. Council discussed the system’s need due to the condition of existing cameras before the vote.
Council authorized staff to submit a Business Grant application using SRS Settlement Funds to make repairs to the old concession stand at Harvey Park, with Councilmember Kenneth Teuton moving the authorization and Councilmember Michael Bates seconding. The council also approved an amended resurfacing quote for Thornton Park tennis courts to include adjustable pickleball netting and a 5% contingency; the project will be funded 80% by a PARD grant and 20% by CPST4 funds.
On public-safety purchases, the council approved buying two Motorola portable radios — one for the SRO position and one spare — funded by Police-Capital Outlay with one radio reimbursed 100% by the SRO grant. Council also approved purchase of a police vehicle for the SRO position; both motions were moved by Councilmember Clay Holley and seconded by Councilmember Michael Bates.
Council voted to enter into an agreement with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice after a motion by Councilmember Todd Etheredge, seconded by Councilmember Rosalyn Greene. The council also approved renewing its CivicPlus agreement for online code hosting and updates, citing integration with existing records and the implementation cost of switching vendors.
The council tabled discussion of the Atomic Road well radio transmitter repair because staff could not obtain the required three bids; Councilmember Kenneth Teuton moved to table the item, seconded by Councilmember Michael Bates.
