Jackson council approves second-reading budget amendment tied to SCIIP grant; first readings pass on two related ordinances

The Town Council of Jackson unanimously approved Ordinance 25-11 on second reading during its Aug. 12 meeting, amending the FY24/25 budget to account for SCIIP grant construction payment, engineering fees, a hydraulic pump for the water department and a police laptop purchase. Councilmember Kenneth Teuton moved to approve the second reading; Councilmember Michael Bates seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous.
Mayor Gurney Wiggins reviewed a separate budget measure, Ordinance 25-12, to recognize PARD grant funding and authorize additional engineering fees for the SCIIP water project. Councilmember Todd Etheredge moved to approve the ordinance on first reading, seconded by Councilmember Bates; the motion passed unanimously.
Council also gave a unanimous first-reading approval to Ordinance 25-13. As presented by Mayor Wiggins, the ordinance would record Mosquito Grant revenue, approve an SCIIP construction payment for the upcoming fiscal year and transfer excess FY25 funds derived from revenue generated by two community baseball tournaments into the Baseball Savings Account.

The amendments authorize spending and transfers that enable planned construction payments, equipment purchases and grant-funded activities without delaying project timelines.
