Jackson council elects Todd Etheredge as Mayor Pro Tem after failed motion to retain Michael Bates

The Town Council of Jackson voted on July 15, 2025, to elect Councilmember Todd Etheredge as Mayor Pro Tem following a failed motion to retain the incumbent. Councilmember Kenny Teuton moved to retain Councilmember Michael Bates; that motion received two 'yes' votes (Teuton and Clay Holley) and did not carry.
Councilmember Michael Bates then nominated Councilmember Todd Etheredge for Mayor Pro Tem; Councilmember Jordan Willingham seconded the nomination. The nomination carried with four 'yes' votes from Bates, Rosalyn Greene, Willingham and Etheredge. The council had six members present; Teuton and Holley were recorded as the two affirmative votes on the earlier retention motion.
Earlier in the meeting the council also discussed and approved standing committee appointments. Councilmember Kenny Teuton moved to accept the appointments as distributed; Councilmember Todd Etheredge seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The changes to leadership and committee rosters take effect immediately and will be reflected in council records and communications.
