Lookout Mountain board declares surplus fire equipment for donation, hears public-safety and infrastructure updates

Commissioner Bentley reported that National Park Service visitor traffic has returned toward pre-pandemic levels and said the town’s parking revenues are affected by the loss of the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway. He asked that equipment from a newly retired fire engine be declared surplus and, if no market exists, donated to the Marion County Volunteer Fire Department. On motion by Commissioner Bentley, seconded by Commissioner Hailey, the board unanimously declared the equipment surplus and authorized donation.
Chief Schermerhorn thanked the town’s dispatch department and reviewed the status of the Center For Domestic Preparedness and National Energy Conservation Week as part of departmental reporting. Commissioner Hailey said new lighting for the town ball fields has been ordered and that, until installation, fields will not be available for nighttime use. Commissioner Valadez reported that a new lift is being installed on the garbage truck and that a new generator has been acquired; he also raised questions about enforcement of fireworks regulations, which Chief Schermerhorn said are being enforced as reported.
In the mayor’s report Mayor Jones said Tennessee American Water Company will upgrade water tanks at the Bragg Avenue location, a project the minutes say will cause disruption for several months. The board adjourned with no further business recorded.
