Mountain Lake council adds land-purchase item to agenda, tables purchase and annexation

MOUNTAIN LAKE, Minn. — The Mountain Lake City Council on April 20 added a potential land-purchase item to its agenda but did not approve any purchase, instead tabling both that item and a separate discussion about annexing several city-owned parcels that lie outside the city limits.
Councilmember Darla Kruser moved to add "Potential Land Purchase" to the meeting agenda; Councilmember Jeff Jack seconded the motion, which carried 5–0. After that amendment, Councilmember Bryan Bargen moved and Councilmember Darla Kruser seconded approval of the agenda and consent agenda as amended; that motion also passed 5–0.
The consent agenda approved claims and payroll (checks #29910–29934 and 1773E–1801E; payroll checks #69460–69491), minutes from multiple boards and commissions (Lake Commission, Library Board, EDA, Utilities Commission and prior City Council minutes) and two resolutions: Resolution #6-26 (Display State Flag) and Resolution #7-26 (Administration under the Minnesota Wetland Conservation Act).
City Administrator Michael Mueller told the council that first-quarter 2026 revenues and expenditures showed no concerns and that "the departments are staying on budget." Mueller also raised a separate item about several parcels owned by the City of Mountain Lake that are located outside the city limits and asked whether the council wanted to pursue annexation; the council tabled that question for future consideration.
The newly added potential land-purchase item was discussed later in the meeting but was not finalized; councilmembers deferred further action and tabled the item. During a roundtable, councilmembers provided brief updates on board and commission meetings. Mayor Mike Nelson adjourned the meeting at 6:24 p.m.
