They're live, and they're coming in hot for all of the market and festival." The director described recent successful events, a new full‑time events hire and plans to partner with police and the CAPS program to offer supervised after‑school activities including homework help, music and crafts.
The director said the after‑school program is targeted at middle‑ and high‑school students but will not turn away younger participants and is tentatively scheduled "starting in March, give the kids somewhere to go Monday through Thursday, 03:00 to about 5." She also said staff are monitoring the festival‑park construction timeline and that "I think they're talking September 1 kinda start, so we'll be able to get our market season," indicating the market season should run through August.
A presenter who described the festival plan told the authority they planned to "use the same area, the grass area directly behind our restaurant" for stage and sound and noted they will seek parking approval from Public Works. The presenter said the proposal adds a national festival kickoff and schedules events in June, July and September.
On the motions recorded during the meeting, a member moved to approve the proposed festival dates; a second was given, the Chair called for a voice vote and members voted in favor. Chair-led routine business earlier in the meeting also approved last meeting's minutes and the register of claims by voice vote.
The authority adjourned after approving the agenda items. Staff said vendor applications are being reviewed and that they expect to be selective as approvals are finalized.
