Commission hears maintenance updates; jail generator grant sought, maintenance schedule trial approved

Jeremy Pouska, county maintenance lead, told commissioners the Search & Rescue building is up and being insulated and that he is preparing a grant request to replace a 24-year-old jail generator with a larger unit capable of powering the whole facility. Pouska said replacing the generator depends on grant awards and that logistics will be challenging.
Pouska asked to use funds already approved for maintenance-shop improvements to purchase a $6,048 split air-conditioning unit; the quote came from the county's current contractor. The minutes do not record a formal motion for the AC purchase. Pouska also proposed shifting maintenance staff to four 10-hour days to provide increased daytime coverage and complete larger projects; by consensus the commission agreed to a trial of the alternative schedule and required that courthouse coverage be maintained while open.
The commission directed maintenance staff to dismantle and store pig pens at the fairgrounds to free building space; commissioners noted this could reduce the number of goat pens available in future fairs because older pens were previously removed. Pouska said replacement batteries for a fairgrounds floor scrubber will be needed and that funding is being sought to support facility needs.
The commission will monitor grant outcomes and any resulting facility work at future meetings.
