Lori Smallwood briefed the commission on a Wyoming Office of Homeland Security (WOHS) grant awarded in 2023 that was not routed properly, leaving some expenditures charged to other sources. Emergency Management Coordinator Dobbs said a request could be submitted to extend the grant nine months to allow proper expenditure of the awarded funds.
Giles noted that solar batteries were part of the proposed project and could be bought with the grant funds if the extension is approved. Sheriff Ken Blackburn asked the commission for approval to request the extension and said if the extension is not approved the grant would be returned to WOHS.
Commissioner Dave Neves moved the commission into executive session for potential litigation following a phone call to Forest Service representative Andrew Johnson; the motion was seconded and carried. The executive session adjourned with no public action reported.
The commission did not record a final decision on seeking the WOHS extension during the public meeting; Blackburn said he would request the extension and would report back to the commission in a subsequent month.
