Travis Sylvester, the county's Prevention Coordinator, briefed the commission on July 1 that the prevention grant is at the halfway point of its funding cycle and continuing as planned. Sylvester said Voices of Support (VOS) training is scheduled for July 15 and that presentations will be recorded as a backup if a trainer is unable to attend. He said hospital staff have taken a lead role in developing VOS training and in drafting a follow-up grant proposal with hospitals and Wyoming Life Line; if that proposal is funded, Big Horn County would serve as the fiscal agent.
Sylvester also said earlier student-athlete opioid-messaging efforts will expand to include outreach to doctors and coaches. He described the drug-court partnership work as having been delayed by state-level issues that required clarification; the county is focused on prevention for future parents involved with drug court.
