The commission voted to increase the education and workforce training grant for the 2027 cycle from $30,000 to $50,000, accepted a scope revision for the Maryville School Corporation construction trades project, approved Change Order No. 9 on the Colorado tracking project, and authorized a payment application for roundabout landscaping and related work.
Chair (speaker 1) moved to increase the education/workforce training grant to $50,000; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Miguel (speaker 2) then introduced a letter from Terrell Taylor, a Maryville High School construction trades instructor, which the presenter read aloud; Taylor's letter explained shifting the project from eight outdoor food-pantry boxes to eight indoor multipurpose distribution cabinets (one per Maryville community school) to reduce spoilage and liability while preserving hands-on construction experience for students. The commission accepted the revised scope and recorded that the project will remain within the previously approved budget.
On construction matters, a staff member (speaker 4) described Change Order No. 9 for the Colorado tracking project — a directional bore and electrical connection after a service pole relocation — with a cost read on the record of approximately $6,688.02; staff said the inspector reported the project remains about $64,000 under budget and recommended paying the change order so work can continue. The commission approved the change order by voice vote.
The commission also approved a payment application for the roundabout improvement work; staff and members discussed that the work is essentially complete with limited punch-list items and approved a payment of $253,350. The board reviewed and approved the register of claims (the total reported in discussion was $280,409.46) and individually moved and approved bond/requisition items (requisitions 76 and 77 were considered and approved during the meeting).
Meeting minutes show staff will continue to track these projects and report back on remaining budget and completion milestones.
