At the May 20 meeting the Big Horn County Commission agreed to partner with the Lovell Kane Museum on grant opportunities after museum director Karen Spragg reported a $10,000 REA grant and a matching $10,000 commitment toward a structure to house the Kane School Wagon.
Spragg said the museum’s Kane bus tour is scheduled for June 7 and its annual fundraiser is set for Oct. 11, 2025. Commissioners indicated support for collaborating on grant pursuits to secure a building to display the restored wagon.
The commission also approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with hospitals for the VOS program. County Prevention Grant Coordinator Travis Sylvester reported that the MOU was signed and requested commission approval; Commissioner Bruce Jolley moved to approve the MOU and the motion was seconded and carried. Sylvester said block prevention grants appear likely to continue and previewed TIPS and SafeServe online trainings and fair outreach messaging for summer events.
A CARES manager asked permission to use grant funds to install cameras and monitors at CARES service counters to improve client screening; commissioners clarified the devices would be for internal use. CARES said it intends to provide services in Lovell tentatively on Wednesdays and Fridays going forward.
