AIT staff highlight safety upgrades, new engineering pathway and industry partnerships

Anderson Institute of Technology representatives told the board the school invested in safety and programming upgrades intended to improve student learning and career outcomes.
"Students can't learn if they don't feel safe," the AIT presenter told the board as they reviewed new safety systems: radios issued to every staff member, a smart alert/lockdown mapping system that notifies administrators and law enforcement, and an upgraded Raptor visitor-management system.
AIT also described a new integrated engineering pathway that combines lathes, mills and mechatronics into a single program. The pathway began this semester with 15 students enrolled and is intended to increase completers who earn industry-recognized certifications. The presenter identified strong partnerships with Arthrex (equipment and training) and Dodge Industrial (equipment donations and presence at career fairs) as key supports for expanding hands-on learning
Staff reviewed enrollment and capacity challenges across programs, explained the difference between course requests and actual enrollments, and described efforts to place students in industry-relevant credentials. AIT noted specific student successes — internship hours, driver’s license attainment, and program completers — and announced upcoming community events including a drop-in open house (Tuesday the 24th), a National Technical Honor Society induction on April 14, and capstone presentations in late April.
AIT leaders asked the board to help publicize community events and continued outreach; no formal board action followed the presentation.
Next steps: AIT will continue outreach to industry partners, monitor enrollment to adjust capacity, and return to the board with program-completion metrics.
