Port Clinton council waives Slater’s liquor‑permit hearing, confirms interim SSD and adopts council rules

Port Clinton City Council used its Jan. 27 meeting to handle a set of administrative items: it waived a hearing on a liquor‑permit transfer for Slater’s Food & Spirits, formalized interim leadership in the Safety and Service department, adopted the 2026 Rules of Council and recorded an infrastructure funding notice.
Beth Gillman moved, and Cathy King seconded, to waive the right to a hearing on the transfer of the liquor permit from ASW Enterprises, LLC (Slater’s Food & Spirits) to FHL Resources, LLC (dba Slater’s). The voice roll call was recorded as seven yes votes and the motion carried 7‑0.
Mr. Sass agreed to remain as Interim Safety Service Director through Dec. 31, 2026 while the city works with a third‑party human resources consultant to revise the SSD job description and prepare a recruitment timetable. The minutes state the position will be posted in early March, interviews are planned for April, and the city hopes to make an offer in May or June with an early July start date if not sooner.
Council adopted the proposed 2026 Rules of Council after a motion from Jerry Tarolli, seconded by Avery Robinson; the roll call was recorded as unanimous 7‑0. President Lisa Sarty announced Beth Gillman will serve as President Pro‑Tem in Sarty’s absence.
Council members and administration also noted the city received $1.5 million in FLIP funding for the W. Perry/Monroe roundabout; Mr. Sass and Mr. Tarolli said construction is not expected to start until 2028 and USDA had given approval. Mr. Below reported USDA had requested documents from the city’s bond counsel (Squire, Patton & Boggs) needed for closing instructions on the sewer and water portions of the project.
