The Mountain Lake City Council on May 4 approved a series of routine and substantive items, including a land purchase, personnel actions and an interagency agreement termination.
The council voted to purchase land identified as Parcel ID 22.413.0030 for $44,500 after a motion by Darla Kruser, seconded by Jeff Jack; the motion carried 5–0. Councilors also approved an independent contractor agreement to designate Matt Fast as the city’s certified building official. The hiring followed announcement that current Building Official Steve Carson will retire at the end of the year; the contract motion was moved by Councilor Darla Kruser and seconded by Bryan Bargen and carried 5–0.
In personnel matters, the council approved an update to the city’s personnel policy to reflect changes in state law regarding Minnesota Paid Family Leave (motion by Andrew Ysker, seconded by Jeff Jack), and approved the rehiring of Jacob Samdal as a temporary police officer effective May 5, 2026. Several routine consent items were also approved, including bills and payroll checks and minutes from April meetings.
The council approved Resolution #9‑26, terminating the Agency Agreement of the Midwest Municipal Gas Agency (MMGA), after member representatives of MMGA recommended dissolution of the agency. The motion to approve the resolution (moved by Darla Kruser, seconded by Andrew Ysker) passed 5–0.
Councilors raised concerns about prevailing wage requirements and the tax status tied to a power-plant bidding process involving Barr Engineering; the city attorney was tasked to address these procurement and wage issues at a special meeting. The council received a brief roundtable update on board and commission meetings and adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
The council did not adopt annexation of several city‑owned parcels during this meeting and tabled further consideration.
