Cloud County meeting roundup: senior center levy request, transfer-station tests, tax-parcel hold, hires and routine approvals

At its June 8 meeting the Cloud County commission heard a 2027 1-mill request from the Commission on Aging, was briefed on Transfer Station water-well testing and possible fee changes, deferred sale of two tax-foreclosure parcels pending research, approved a hire and a disaster-relief application and reviewed payroll and budget reports.
The Cloud County Board of Commissioners covered several routine and operational items during its June 8 meeting in Concordia.
Richard Hubert and Don Menard of the Commission on Aging presented a budget request for a 1-mill levy for 2027 and reviewed activities at the county senior centers. The board received the request; the minutes record no appropriation or vote on the levy during the session.
Solid Waste Director Mike Hake reported the county is awaiting water-well test results at the Transfer Station, discussed the 2027 Transfer Station and Recycling Center budget and noted the facility will be closed on July 3 and 4. He also said the county is considering a possible fee increase for recycling/transfer services.
Treasurer JoDee LeDuc told commissioners the county holds two parcels transferred to the county after a previous tax-foreclosure sale and that the county does not intend to move forward with selling those parcels until additional research is completed.
Brenda Dietzman discussed exploring a regional jail and said she will return to the board with a cost proposal for services. The board approved a Disaster Relief application for Jerry Jensen for property at 1811 N 60th Rd (R3963).
The board approved payroll expenses totaling $190,596.37 and reviewed fund-level disbursements (General Fund $101,393.71; Road & Bridge $52,022.95; Appraiser $5,987.92; County Health $16,182.30; Noxious Weed $1,580.52; Election $2,229.99; Solid Waste $11,198.98). Payroll deductions and benefits totaled $79,134.78. The board approved the June 1, 2026 minutes and adjourned at 12:54 p.m.
