Pittman Center approves first reading of illuminated-signs ordinance, tables rezoning; reviews guardrail quote and community programs

At its Sept. 18 meeting, the Pittman Center Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 341, which sets provisions for illuminated 'open' signs, and tabled a separate rezoning ordinance (Ordinance No. 342) until the October meeting because of safety concerns at the property's entrance.
Vice Mayor Kevin Howard moved to approve the first reading of Ordinance No. 341; Alderman Steve McCarter seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Howard also moved—and McCarter seconded—to table Ordinance No. 342 to the October meeting; the minutes cite safety concerns at the property entrance as the reason for tabling.
Under other business, staff reported a guardrail-only quote of $20,000 for Butler Branch Road and noted that riprap rock will also be required; another quote was due Sept. 19. The board discussed placing a blessing box at City Hall to assist residents with food or groceries but recorded no formal action. A newsletter poll resulted in a board decision to discontinue the regular newsletter; staff will publish a final farewell issue directing residents to the city website and the town Facebook page for updates.
A motion to adjourn, made by Alderwoman Cheryl Ogle and seconded by Vice Mayor Kevin Howard, passed and the meeting ended at 6:24 p.m.
