District leaders presented midyear diagnostic and MTSS data showing progress in reading and math across school levels and asked the board to consider targeted supports for students who remain behind grade level.
Patrick (Superintendent) reviewed the district’s triannual diagnostic system (i‑Ready, DIBELS, math diagnostics) and said the data indicate both broad and targeted growth. At Broadbrook School staff reported a reduction in the number of students two or more grade levels below from 77 to 22 schoolwide, a roughly 71% decrease from the fall diagnostic. At the middle school, the number of students at or above grade level rose in ELA from 45 to 82 and in math from 15 to 39 at midyear. Patrick also noted a middle‑school phonics proficiency figure the staff cited as 97% in a recent MTSS meeting.
Board members sought clarification about whether the reduction figures included students with Individualized Education Programs or 504 plans; staff confirmed state end‑of‑year grade‑level standards are being used as the assessment target for all students and said the MTSS process allows rapid subgroup analysis so staff can refine interventions. Board members asked staff to provide grade‑level breakdowns and additional charts previously supplied to the curriculum committee.
The report capped with a progress note for the high school: by January, 52% of the Class of 2026 had completed their FAFSA application tasks, more than double the comparable point for the Class of 2025, and the school is running incentives to support completion.
