Mulga council approves $17,641.50 to repair town fire engine, joins BuyBoard co-op

The council unanimously approved the repair payment after visitor Jonathan Goodwin said the town’s recently purchased engine "now need[s] some repairs to be made to it." Council member Rachel Davis moved to approve the expenditure, and Jeremy Davis seconded. Roll call recorded all council seats and Mayor W. Keith Varner voting yes.
The council also voted unanimously to join the BuyBoard cooperative, contingent on BuyBoard being "an approved co-op by the Alabama Board of Examiners," a condition included in a motion by Lisa Armstrong and seconded by Gage Kelley.
The meeting opened with a pre-council update on several neighborhood concerns. Seat 1 reported clogged ditches; Seat 2 described a planned park cleanup involving the fire department and noted recent thefts at the park; Seat 3 asked when a park fence would be repaired and asked about last week’s water leak in Bayview. Mayor Varner said the fence "is going to be fixed soon" and attributed the Bayview leak to mis-marked lines that led to Alabama Power striking a water line: "The lines were mismarked and Alabama Power hit a water line." Seat 4 reported that the American flag at the park is in shreds and that a resident at 121 Front Street who planned to move did not do so over the weekend; Seat 5 raised repeated power losses on Lakeshore.
Before the substantive votes, the council approved the Jan. 20 minutes; that motion passed with Seat 2 recorded as abstaining and all other seats and the mayor voting yes. The council also approved bills for payment in a separate roll-call vote that was unanimous.
On other business, Mayor Varner said the water-line extension project is progressing on schedule. Council members asked whether the town had taken further steps to purchase a generator for the designated storm shelter; the mayor replied that no purchase had been made yet. The meeting concluded after a motion by Lelan Taylor to adjourn; the minutes were attested by Clerk Robin Giardina.
