Silver Creek Township board approves finances, sets roadwork follow-ups and pursues nuisance complaint

The Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors approved routine financial business and set follow-ups on road maintenance and a property nuisance after its July 16 meeting at the township hall.
Chairman Chris Newman called for approval of the July 9 minutes and the board carried the motion to approve them; Supervisor Brandon Geyen made the motion and Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded. Vice Chairman Mike Helman moved to approve the listed claims and disbursements; Forsman seconded and the board approved the claims list 4-0. The Clerk/Treasurer reported fund balances including a Road & Bridge balance of $601,545.96 and a General Fund balance of $158,288.11; Chairman Newman moved to accept the report, the motion was seconded by Supervisor Geyen and carried 4-0.
On staffing, Chairman Newman said the board would wait to see responses to the current hiring advertisement and, if needed, run one additional ad for up to $200; Vice Chairman Helman seconded and the board approved the approach. The board did not take further hiring action at the meeting.
Maintenance staff briefed the board on upcoming and ongoing roadwork: remaining shouldering on 119th and 120th streets and on dead ends, ditch-cleaning planned for 95th St NW, an oil leak on a Ziegler vehicle, and the need for quotes for tree trimming. The board scheduled a road tour to review priorities and agreed to consider resident requests for chip sealing—specifically an inquiry about 105th St and Amery Ave—during that tour and at budget time.
The board noted a contractor-caused chip-seal issue on 155th St and directed staff to document damage. Separately, neighbors raised concerns about the property at 3864 150th St NW, describing a blocked driveway they said posed a fire hazard, alleged health concerns and a rat problem linked to large amounts of junk the owner is reportedly moving from Maple Lake. The township said it will take photographs, contact the property owner and seek assistance from Wright County if necessary; no enforcement action was recorded at the meeting.
The board also confirmed it will pursue a county grant for work on Gowan and 134th; Wright County staffer Elizabeth Karels will work with maintenance staff and Deputy Clerk Julie Urbatch to complete the township’s application before the grant period ends. Supervisor Forsman moved to approve the list of election judges contingent on their willingness to serve; Vice Chairman Helman seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
Before adjourning at 8:43 p.m., the board recorded audit claim line items including claim 18866 for $3,233.00 and claim 18870 for $3,942.85. The board set no additional meetings or votes on the record for that night.
