Silver Creek Township Board approves up to $10,000 for Baker Ave ditch cleanup, appoints deputy clerk

At its July 9, 2024 meeting, the Silver Creek Township Board voted 4-0 to hire Schmitz Excavating for time-and-materials work up to $10,000 to clean ditches along Baker Avenue, appointed Julie Urbatch as deputy clerk and approved several routine administrative items.
The board met at the Silver Creek Township Hall with Chairman Chris Newman presiding; Vice Chairman Mike Helman and Supervisors Brandon Geyen and Sandy Forsman were present and Supervisor Nelson was noted absent. Interim Clerk/Treasurer Nancy Betzler recorded seven attendees.
Supervisor Mike Helman moved to hire Schmitz Excavating to clean both ditches on Baker Avenue after the board received an estimate of approximately $8,000 to $10,000 for the work. Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded the motion, which carried 4-0. The motion authorizes work on a time-and-materials basis and caps township spending at $10,000 for this effort.
The board appointed Julie Urbatch as Deputy Clerk on a motion by Chairman Chris Newman, seconded by Supervisor Helman; the appointment carried 4-0. The board also authorized placing a one-week hiring advertisement in the Drummer at a cost of $177.20 to recruit a new clerk.
Other administrative actions included authorization for Supervisor Helman to negotiate for a new office printer (motion carried 4-0) and the board’s signing of a liquor license for the Hasty Truck Stop (motion by Chairman Newman, seconded by Supervisor Brandon Geyen; carried 4-0).
In old-business updates, Supervisor Helman said he and Supervisor Forsman plan to attend the Wright County township officers meeting. Helman reported the township attorney advised that driveway culvert replacement language could be incorporated into a Right of Way policy; the board agreed to review a draft and to revisit three ordinances (Driveway Ordinance, Right of Way Ordinance and Right of Way Obstruction Ordinance) at the August 20 meeting. The board named Supervisors Helman and Forsman to the hiring committee but noted the township has received few applications so far.
The board adjourned at 8:55 p.m. The minutes were submitted by Interim Clerk/Treasurer Nancy Betzler and show the minutes were approved by the board on July 16, 2024.
