Swedesboro-Woolwich board approves submission of tentative $39.9M 2026-27 budget, schedules April 29 public hearing

The Swedesboro-Woolwich Board of Education voted to approve and authorize submission of its tentative 2026-2027 budget to the Gloucester County Office of Education, board officials said at a meeting on March 25, 2026.
Board Secretary and School Business Administrator Korey Jeffries presented the budget, which proposes $39,903,552 in total expenditures across the general, special revenue and debt service funds, $15,615,828 in anticipated revenues and $24,287,724 in taxes to be raised. The presentation noted a $1,006,184 adjustment intended to cover increased health benefit costs and a proposed use of $784,256 in banked cap to increase the general fund tax levy above the 2% cap "for the purpose of staff retainment and delivery of services," according to the motion the board approved.
The board also approved a maximum travel and related expense reimbursement limit of $59,610 for the 2026-2027 school year; the minutes show $18,262.74 had already been expended against this line in the current year. The travel cap was adopted under the procedures required by N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-7.3 and carried on a recorded roll-call vote.
During the public comment period on the budget, Eilleen Healy, president of the Swedesboro-Woolwich Education Association (SWEA), thanked the board for avoiding staff cuts, expressed concern about rising health insurance costs, and offered SWEA's assistance in reviewing janitorial-service RFPs. Resident Randy Dickson commended the board for its work on the budget process.
The board scheduled a public hearing on the tentative budget for April 29 at 6:00 p.m. in the gym at Gov. Charles Stratton School. The board acted on the tentative budget and related motions by recorded votes; the minutes record the budget-related approvals as carrying unanimously on the recorded roll calls cited in the meeting minutes.
The meeting recessed into a closed executive session to discuss personnel matters, specifically the superintendent contract, and returned to open session later the same evening. The board adjourned at approximately 7:34 p.m. and noted the next meeting on April 29, 2026.
