A financial summary presented at the meeting listed water income of $1,838,541.40; gas income of $767,661.53; fee income of $80,385.04; expenses of $1,945,678.67; and a reported profit of $741,909.30 (profit margin 27.6%). The presenter noted outstanding needs for the new fire station such as toilets, shower surrounds and appliances.
Rachel Davis moved to approve up to $10,000 for amenities and miscellaneous construction for the new fire station; Jeremy Davis seconded. The roll-call vote recorded 'Yes' from Seats 1,2,4 and 5 and Mayor W. Keith Varner; Seat 3 was absent. The motion passed.
Jonathan Goodwin reported that the ISO grading should be in soon and that a resident donated a vehicle to the fire department for training. Separately, Seat 1 asked about pursuing issues with US Steel related to a dam; Mayor Varner said the town needs to discuss annexation of property near the lake/bridge with US Steel first.
The council later moved into executive session to discuss legal matters, with a written attorney declaration citing Ala. Code §36-25A-7 entered into the record after the meeting. The minutes do not record specifics of legal deliberations or any expenditure for outside counsel.
