Morrison board approves park grills and boosts fireworks budget for 250th celebration

The Town of Morrison Board of Mayor and Aldermen on July 7 approved the purchase of four new grills for Morrison Town Park and voted to increase the FY26 fireworks budget line from $5,000 to $10,000 for a one‑time expense ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday celebrations.
Mayor Sue Anderson presided over the meeting at Morrison Town Hall. Adam Bouldin moved to dispense with the reading of the June 2, 2025 minutes and approve them as written; Sue Jones seconded and the motion carried unanimously. During public comment no speakers were signed up.
Jeannine Miller told the board she found grills on ULINE priced at $355 each and requested replacements for the park. Donald Miller moved to purchase four grills for a total of $1,420 (plus shipping); Samantha Bouldin seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Members also discussed planning for expanded fireworks next year. Donald Miller asked whether more funds could be allocated for fireworks for the nation’s 250th birthday and the board agreed a committee would handle next year’s activities. Sue Jones moved to increase the fireworks FY26 line item from $5,000 to $10,000 for this one time only; Donald Miller seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Fire Chief Aaron Roberts updated the board on emergency services: the fire department is using Station Boss software for administrative tasks but the system is not accessible from town hall; Chief Roberts said he will ask Chris Centracchio to investigate. He also reported a new fire truck should be delivered in about 30–45 days and that equipment at both stations will need to be rearranged to accommodate it. Chief Roberts complimented the town and the Morrison Ruritan on the recent Fourth of July fireworks show.
Mayor Anderson said she would check with the town’s insurance company about an inspection and possible repair or replacement of the Morrison Public Library roof after Jeannine Miller reported the shingles appeared shiny. The mayor also read a portion of a letter from the State Comptroller concerning timely submission of the town’s FY26 budget. Mayor Anderson reported a major water leak behind town hall was repaired and that a separate leak at Morrison Town Park will need repair soon.
There were no ordinances or announcements. Jeannine Miller moved to adjourn, Adam Bouldin seconded, and the meeting ended at 8:05 p.m.
