Atlantic Beach reports strong Bike Fest revenue; announces summer events

Interim Town Manager Linda Cheatham told the Atlantic Beach Town Council on June 16 that Bike Fest produced roughly $86,676 in income and incurred about $53,454 in bills. "Our income was about $86,676 dollars and our expenses were $53,454 dollars," Cheatham said, adding that after paying bills and accounting for prior balances the Bike Fest account will retain more than $100,000.
Cheatham provided additional breakdowns: approximately $6,000 from RV parking and about $3,100 from neighborhood car parking; tower-lighting costs were about $5,700. She said cleanup and security will require further attention and recommended starting event planning earlier next year to secure entertainment and improve operations.
In other updates, Cheatham said the town office will be closed for Juneteenth and encouraged vendor signups for upcoming events. She listed a Juneteenth Festival on June 21, a community health fair on June 28 and a summer concert series beginning June 19 and running through November; the Gullah Geechee Festival is scheduled for Labor Day weekend.
Community member Kenneth McIver asked whether Bike Fest expenses were reflected in the general fund; Cheatham explained Bike Fest income and expenses are maintained in a separate account and do appear on accounting statements but are not part of the general fund budget.
Council did not take separate votes on the manager's report items, which were delivered for information and operational planning.
