The Spring Lake Heights Borough Council on May 18 adopted Ordinance 2026‑08 establishing a short‑term rental tax, introduced Ordinance 2026‑09 to establish seasonal parking restrictions on Jersey Avenue and approved a slate of resolutions, including a grant application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for Ocean Road East and the introduction of the 2026 local budget.
The public hearing for Ordinance 2026‑08 was opened and closed with no public speakers, and the ordinance was adopted with ayes from Councilmembers Capristo, Casagrande, Degnan‑Spang and King; Councilmen William Graetz and Dayton Lonsdale were absent. Ordinance 2026‑09 was introduced for first reading; Attorney Michael Collins said the parking restrictions are temporary and set to terminate Oct. 1, 2026, with a public hearing scheduled June 1.
The council approved the consent agenda (R2026‑108 through R2026‑111) and passed additional resolutions recorded as R2026‑112 through R2026‑118. Notable items included R2026‑113 accepting a performance guarantee for Fernandes Construction on Wall Road, R2026‑114 authorizing submission of an NJDOT grant application for Ocean Road East, R2026‑115 certifying EEO compliance, and an amended R2026‑117 introducing the 2026 local budget. R2026‑116 (reading the budget by title only) was removed from the agenda for future use in July.
All recorded votes at the meeting were unanimous among members present (Capristo, Casagrande, Degnan‑Spang, King). The council adjourned at 8:11 p.m.
