Waterford Township Board approves summer learning, staffing moves and district finances

At its Jan. 21 meeting the Waterford Township Board of Education approved Title I and special-education summer programs for July 2026, multiple personnel actions including a teacher retirement, field trips, financial reports and payment of bills; no members of the public spoke.
The Waterford Township Board of Education on Jan. 21 approved a slate of routine school-district actions, including summer learning programs, numerous personnel moves and the district's monthly financial certifications.
Board President Matthew DeNafo called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the board voted unanimously to adjourn into a brief closed session and return to open session. Howard Long, the board solicitor, presented the district Code of Ethics.
The board approved the superintendent's monthly reports, including a safety-drill log and enrollment update. Superintendent Dr. Michael A. Nolan presented drill records showing, among other items, a Waterford Elementary School fire drill on Dec. 1, 2025 (422 students) and an active-shooter exercise on Dec. 2, 2025 (431 students); Atco and the school listed as "TR" also reported drills in December. The district's reported total enrollment rose from 916 in 2024–25 to 963 in 2025–26.
On the education agenda the board acknowledged the Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) investigations and approved the Title I Summer Learning Academy for July 6–30, 2026 (separate schedules for preschool/primary and grades 2–5) and the Special Education Extended School Year program on the same July dates. The board also approved field trips for spring and early summer 2026, with itemized admission and transportation costs listed in the meeting materials (examples: Philadelphia Zoo admission $2,460; Six Flags admission $8,898.40).
The board moved through a broad personnel package by roll call. Approved actions included lateral moves for certified and support staff, multiple resignations and new appointments (including long-term substitute and permanent assignments), appointment of substitutes and homebound instructors, and the retirement of Mary Low, an elementary education teacher, effective July 1, 2026. The board also approved creation of a permanent teacher position for district use.
On business matters trustees certified the November 2025 financial reports in accordance with state requirements and approved payment of bills and claims. The board approved a McKinney-Vento Act transportation contract for three students at $357.95 per day (67 days total $23,982.65).
