Brandi and Phillip Spillers appeared at a May 27 public hearing before the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County to request a conditional-use permit to place a mobile home on roughly 15 acres at 410 Firetower Road as their primary residence.
The Spillers told the commission they currently live in Columbus and want to move to the site because of family and community ties; they said they could not afford to build a house and plan to place the mobile home on a concrete slab. County planning staff provided a letter recommending approval and noted the parcel is zoned R-R and the required checklist items had been completed.
Neighbor Mark Henson spoke during public comment and said he was opposed to mobile homes in the area, arguing that “mobile homes depreciate, and when they get vacant and abandoned it makes the county look ugly.” Chairman Charles Coffey said he had received a written concern from an adjoining property owner about CUVA status but that the property in question would not be developed.
The public hearing was adjourned at the conclusion of comments; the transcript records no final vote on the conditional-use permit during the hearing. Planning and Zoning’s recommendation will be considered by the commission when the item is placed on a future agenda for a formal decision.
