Campobello council backs staff coordination on family recovery support after local outreach

Jason Smith, interim executive director of the Forrester Center, reported roughly seven overdoses in the Campobello area over the past 18 months and described support services his organization can provide, including peer outreach, Narcan distribution, transportation assistance, and community engagement. Smith said similar outreach in nearby communities reduced overdose rates.
After discussion about outreach logistics and resource needs, Council Member Reitha Stevenson moved to authorize Council Member Alician Sprouse and Mayor Aaron Ash to meet with Police Chief Chad McNeill and Lt. Chris Miller to develop a plan for community‑based drug education, prevention and recovery initiatives. Council Member Joe McDowell seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously. Council asked staff to return with a plan developed in coordination with police and regional partners.
