At the meeting, Brian Harker, who said he works for the fire department, proposed allowing a local funeral home to install a privately funded “wind phone” near Airhead Park. He described the structure as a small, roughly 4x4 booth with an old‑style telephone not connected to any lines, meant as a solemn place for grieving people to speak aloud to loved ones.
Harker said volunteers would bear the installation cost and suggested a location along a walking trail near the park’s bridge and parking area. He provided photos and a proposed site map to council and asked that the town route the idea through the Recreation Commission for review. Council asked staff to take the proposal to the Recreation Commission and bring a recommendation back to council.
Council did not vote on the proposal; the matter was referred to the Recreation Commission for consideration.
