Briarcliffe Acres gets police audit date, paving updates and tree-board plans

At its Sept. 16 meeting the Briarcliffe Acres Town Council received several operational updates: a police security report, upcoming audits, paving notifications and tree-board planning.
Chief of Police Kyle Lamparter presented the security report for Aug. 19–Sept. 16, noting 33 incidents or calls for service. He told the council the Criminal Justice Academy is scheduled to complete an audit of the department on Sept. 26; the department is preparing for that inspection. The minutes also reference that the Department of Justice will audit municipal police departments on a biennial schedule and request monthly use-of-force and pursuit statistics for reporting.
Town Clerk Jennifer Newbold said she will complete the Full Cost Disclosure Report required by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and publish the required advertisement. She also said SCDOT has reimbursed the town for Phase I and Phase II resurfacing costs and that the town will send timely communications to residents about upcoming paving on Birch and Holly Lanes after the meeting.
Councilman Brian McIntyre said he will be on site during paving, collaborate with the clerk and Councilwoman Pendley on communications, and is coordinating with Myrtle Beach Public Works about a leak in a newly paved road and a cut across Center Drive. Mayor Buonviri reiterated that Horry County Department of Public Works did not complete work on the swash before the Sept. 4 deadline and said work may resume after sea‑turtle season; the City of North Myrtle Beach concurs as the town seeks a more permanent solution.
Mayor Pro Tempore Peggy Bell said she will remain the liaison to the Advisory Tree Board for Tree City USA and discussed preliminary plans for an Arbor Day/Fire Wise event on April 26, 2025; the next Advisory Tree Board meeting is Nov. 18, 2024.
