City administrator outlines parade plans, storm checks and a proposed five-year trash contract

City Administrator Cynthia Wagner told the Board on June 3 that Smithville will enter a float in the Smithville Lake Festival parade scheduled for Saturday, June 14, with lineup beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Smithville High School; volunteers from the Board and staff are invited to ride or walk alongside the float and to help decorate at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13.
Wagner said heavy afternoon rain had prompted street crews to check storm drains after some residents reported about four inches of rainfall; staff said they did not believe there was significant damage. She also announced that applications for the 2025 Citizens Academy are available on the city's website and must be submitted by July 7.
On solid-waste contract talks, Wagner reported staff contacted Green for Life (GFL) and that GFL would agree to maintain a 1.70% annual increase for 2026–2028 if the City accepts a five-year contract that would include 2.5% annual increases in 2029 and 2030. Wagner described the proposed rate path as an excellent rate for five years and said staff will bring a revised agreement to the Board at the next meeting or the first meeting in July.
