Union Township board approves leadership and personnel changes, names new elementary principal
Summary
The Union Township Board of Education approved a slate of personnel actions June 9, including retirements and resignations, interim and permanent principal appointments, stipend adjustments, and new hires. The board also approved an interim middle school principal through December and set salaries for the newly appointed elementary principal.
The Union Township Board of Education on June 9 approved several personnel moves affecting school leadership, classroom staff and support positions.
On a consent motion moved by Lou Palma and seconded by President Cortney Dominianni, the board approved Personnel items P1–P15. The slate included a paid medical leave (employee #416), the resignation of elementary teacher Melissa Congdon effective July 1, 2025, and the resignation of paraprofessional Melissa Barry effective July 1, 2025. The board also accepted the retirement of Elementary School Principal Rhonda Pevorus, effective Oct. 1, 2025.
The board approved interim and leave-replacement appointments: Claire Rothstein was appointed as a preschool leave-replacement teacher from Aug. 20 to Dec. 1, 2025, and Bevin Nittel was approved as Interim Middle School Principal for July 21–Dec. 23, 2025, at $500 per day not to exceed $44,000. The board also approved Wayne Golden and Dave Knoble as shared athletic coordinators for the 2025–26 school year at $1,328 each.
In Other Business, the board approved a two-part appointment for Steven Fiedeldey. He will serve as Elementary School Principal effective Aug. 4–Dec. 31, 2025, at an annualized salary of $115,000, and as Elementary School Principal/Director of Special Services from Jan. 1–June 30, 2026, at $155,000.
The board approved a number of stipend and payroll amendments for the 2024–25 school year, including revisions to Testing Coordinator and Athletic Coordinator stipend amounts for listed staff. It also authorized typical substitute and summer-custodian hires and approved one home-instruction teacher at $30/hour for 2024–25.
Board President Cortney Dominianni and Board Secretary Eva Preuett led the roll call; the personnel consent agenda passed with an 8–0 recorded vote and one member absent.
The appointments and resignations will be reflected in district personnel records; the board noted some personnel actions are provisional pending required background checks and the submission of emergent-hire paperwork.
