Mayor Edward Antoskiewicz told the Streets Committee that North Royalton had been notified of a $4 million award to widen a segment of Route 82 from York to Ridge, with project oversight handled by the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA).
"That money hasn’t been received by them yet," the mayor said, adding that design and public-involvement steps are next once ODOT and NOACA move forward. City Engineer Matt Glass said the existing right-of-way is about 60 feet wide and the project likely will not require substantial permanent additional right-of-way for pavement widening; however, temporary grading easements may be needed and sanitary-sewer upgrades are expected to be part of the scope.
Resident Connie Mayer urged urgent planning, saying the widening has been discussed for decades and that infrastructure replacement (sewers, utilities) can be expensive and should be addressed sooner rather than later. Mr. Glass said more clarity on design and scope could be available in roughly three months, but cautioned the project will likely take several years from award to construction.
The committee voted to postpone taking further action on the York-to-Ridge widening until the June meeting to allow staff time to gather design and funding details and coordinate public outreach.
