At its Dec. 3 meeting the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County confirmed three appointments to the Board of Elections, adopted a 2025 meeting calendar and approved the employee holiday schedule for 2025.
The commission approved resolutions appointing Nancy Hoard to the Board of Elections for a term through Dec. 31, 2028; Valerie Lassiter for a term ending Dec. 31, 2026; and Crystal Walker for a term through Dec. 31, 2028. Commissioner Timothy Biddle made the motion to appoint Nancy Hoard; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Valerie Lassiter’s appointment was moved by Commissioner Jason Frost and seconded by Commissioner Biddle and passed unanimously. The motion to appoint Crystal Walker was moved by Commissioner Frost and seconded by Commissioner Douglas; the minutes note Commissioner Biddle recused himself from that vote and the appointment was approved.
The commission adopted its 2025 regular meeting calendar and an employee holiday calendar. A motion to set work sessions at 6 p.m. failed to pass, and a subsequent motion to adopt a 9 a.m. work-session schedule passed after Commissioner Frost voted against and Chairman Charles Coffey cast a tie‑breaking vote in favor.
At a Dec. 23 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver and department heads provided routine updates on parks, community development and public works. Weaver presented a county vehicle inventory and said the county currently expects to need only one replacement vehicle after several leased vehicles are returned. A discussion about replacing a sheriff’s vehicle — whether to select a truck rather than a sedan — followed. Amanda Beaver, who spoke from the audience, said the department is not at full staffing and disputed some details of the inventory; she also said a 2021 Explorer awaiting replacement and other interceptors have differing return schedules.
No purchase authorization was added to the agenda following the work session; commissioners agreed the need was not yet justified. The commission also considered but did not place a cemetery by‑laws revision on the regular meeting agenda and postponed review of that item until a work session and further consultation with the cemetery committee.
County Attorney Bin Minter announced he had joined a new firm and that his hourly rate will increase to $325 on Jan. 1; he recommended the commission formalize the engagement so files could be transferred as needed.
The commission entered executive session on Dec. 3 to discuss legal matters and again during the Dec. 23 work session; minutes state no votes were taken while the body was closed to the public.
