Resident questions driveway citation and delayed road repairs; county defends warning system

"We only have one motor grader and it was down for repairs," Commissioner Jason Frost said, noting limited equipment affected response times. County Manager Thomas Weaver said the county issues warnings as its formal system to inform residents of problems and said staff make roads passable after storms and return later to finish repairs.
Chairman Charles Coffey characterized a warning as "a courtesy and we do not have to give them," and expressed confidence in staff working with available resources. The county manager told the meeting the county responds to what it can with available resources and prioritizes work after emergencies.
Mr. Abercrombie asked how many other driveways received citations the same day; the County Manager said ten driveways received warnings that day and that some were on other roads, including Hwy. 137. Abercrombie also said he filed a work order on Sept. 20 for Patterson Road; crews made the road passable but full repairs occurred after additional days.
