The Union Township Board of Education on Nov. 24 accepted the district's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and the Auditor's Management Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, as prepared by Bedard, Kurowicki & Co., CPAs, and approved a corrective action plan addressing Recommendation #2025-001 that will be submitted to the New Jersey Department of Education.
The board also approved district bills totaling $941,790.51 and a package of finance and facilities items, including transfers, tuition contracts and professional-development registrations. The board accepted a $100 donation from Miguel Abreu to support the school lunch program. A LearnWell placement was authorized at a rate of $61.70 per hour for up to 10 hours per week for the period Nov. 3 to Dec. 3, 2025, per the minutes.
Board action included increasing the home-instruction rate from $30 per hour to $50 per hour effective Nov. 24, 2025 through June 30, 2026. The expenditures and accounting certifications were presented under N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16:10 and approved by roll call; the finance package passed with seven yes votes and two members recorded as absent for the vote. The audit acceptance and corrective action plan were voted on as part of the F9/F10 agenda items.
Why it matters: acceptance of the ACFR and AMR and approval of a corrective action plan begin the formal state reporting process required by the New Jersey Department of Education and record the board's oversight of district finance and compliance for fiscal 2025. The vote cleared several operational actions needed for program continuity, including tuition contracts and home-instruction services.
What comes next: the corrective action plan will be submitted to the New Jersey Department of Education, and routine finance oversight (monthly reports and transfers) will continue as part of the board's regular agenda.
