Chattahoochee County OKs CDBG application, pledges $47,500 match for FY2025 request

The Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners on March 4 voted unanimously to authorize an application to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for Fiscal Year 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds of up to $1,000,000 and to obligate $47,500 from county funds to satisfy match and leverage requirements if the grant is awarded.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to approve the resolution authorizing the application; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The commission also approved a separate resolution directing the chair to execute documents and provide any additional information DCA requires.
The meeting packet included a draft Letter of Agreement with the River Valley Regional Commission (RC) assigning the RC responsibility for preparing the CDBG application, including data collection, public hearings, environmental and preliminary historic reviews, and requests for proposals for architectural or engineering services. The RC’s packet language specifies a $750 fee to defray application preparation costs for a new application ($500 for an application rewrite), plus allowable administrative expenses if the grant is awarded and the RC is engaged to provide implementation support.
Chairman Charles Coffey signed the CDBG resolution in the packet; staff recorded the commission’s direction for the chair to execute and submit documentation required by the Department of Community Affairs should the county move forward with the application.
The packet also included a separate county resolution that obligates $47,500 from the county’s general fund to serve as match/leveraged funds for the CDBG application; the resolution states the obligation is contingent on receipt of the grant award. County staff indicated the obligation will be documented and submitted with the application materials.
