Carneys Point Township Committee members used the March 1 session to discuss several municipal services and capital priorities that will affect operations in 2025 and beyond. The draft budget retains $100,000 from Dog Licensing for a shelter; Mrs. Shaw asked whether any existing building could be repurposed, but Mayor Brown said the Rt 40/Rt 48 shelter is vacant and "beyond repair." Mr. Pelura suggested asking the Humane Shelter on Courses Landing Road whether it has expanded and whether donated land could host a facility.
Committee members said they had contacted Bryan Johnson regarding Fire Department requests. C. Ehret reported that nothing from last year’s allocation was spent and suggested using those funds for electrical repairs. The committee also noted that Carneys Point is taking on Penns Grove court work and that additional offices will need furniture; the amount cited for those needs was roughly $30,000.
On solid-waste equipment, Ehret said the township will purchase new trash trucks but removed budgeted trash cans from this year’s plan because the trucks will take two years to arrive. The committee did not take formal votes on these items at the March 1 meeting; they discussed options for shelter siting, reallocation of unspent funds for repairs and adjusting procurement timing for trucks and containers.
