The Califon Board of Education approved a unanimous consent agenda at its Sept. 18 regular meeting that included a $195,939.53 bill list, two out-of-district tuition contracts, a joint transportation agreement with Tewksbury Township and a slate of policy readings and administrative items.
Vice President Michael Reaves moved to consider the consent agenda and Rita Lemley seconded; the board approved the full package by unanimous roll call vote. Board Secretary Matthew Herzer presented the Treasurer’s and Board Secretary report for July 2024 and the board noted, in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:23A:16.20, that sufficient funds are available to meet district obligations.
Votes at a glance: the bill list dated Aug. 22–Sept. 18, 2024 for $195,939.53 was approved; two tuition contracts with SEARCH Learning Group for Student #1323479469 and Student #8893256520 (Sept. 1, 2024–June 30, 2025) were authorized at a per-diem rate of $706.00; the board approved entering a 2024–25 joint transportation agreement with the Tewksbury Township School Board to transport school-choice students residing in Califon for $1,177 per student annually and to provide field and athletic trip transport at $95 per hour. The consent agenda also included approval of facility-use documentation, mandated safety/fire drill records and routine July transfers.
Personnel and operational items approved under the consent agenda included an amendment authorizing Jennifer Sedlacek for an additional 15 hours of summer work at $40 per hour to update health records, approval for Ed Belenguer to attend Integrated Pest Management training on Oct. 11, 2024 at a cost of $25, and a slate of substitute teachers for 2024–25 pending background checks. Curriculum items approved included field trips (Tranquillity Farm for grades K–2, student-paid; Columbia Trail/park walk for grades 3–5) and adoption of the Califon School Safety and Security Plan for the 2024–25 school year.
The board also approved a set of policy readings: first readings for P 5337 (Service Animals), P 5350 (Student Suicide Prevention), P 8420 (Emergency and Crisis Situations), and P&R 8467 (Firearms and Weapons), and second readings for P 0141 (Board Member Number and Term), P 2200 (Curriculum Content), and P & R 3160 and P & R 4160 (Physical Examination).
There was no public comment and no items under old or new business. The board moved into executive session at 7:21 p.m. to discuss exempt matters and reconvened at 8:23 p.m., adjourning at 8:24 p.m.
