Board hears district goals, approves student sun‑protection policy first reading and remote‑learning plan

At the July 23 meeting Superintendent Dr. Kurt Ceresnak summarized the district's three goals for the coming year — strengthening Professional Learning Communities to use data, advancing social‑emotional supports, and beginning the five‑year facilities plan — and notified the board that a student sun‑protection (sunscreen) policy is now mandated and must be implemented before the 2025–26 school year.

The board approved Policy 5339.01 'Student Sun Protection' for first reading as part of its consent agenda and, separately, approved abolishment of Policy 2415.03 'Highly Qualified Teachers' on second reading. Board members also certified monthly emergency drills for June and approved the district's 2025–2026 emergency remote learning plan.

Mr. James McBain called attention to procedural compliance with public‑meeting requirements at the opening of the meeting. The board moved into closed session at 7:12 p.m. for legal matters and reconvened at 8:04 p.m. for a retreat presentation from Dr. Ceresnak on implementation of district and board goals; the meeting adjourned at 9:03 p.m.
