Board accepts HIB self-assessment, approves homebound instruction and multiple student activities

The Butler Board of Education voted to accept the HIB (harassment, intimidation and bullying) self-assessment covering Jan. 21 through Feb. 24, 2026, and approved remedial and disciplinary actions recommended by building principals.
The motion to accept the HIB report was moved and seconded and carried by roll call (recorded as nine yes votes including the Bloomingdale representative L. Grecco). Curriculum Committee Chair J. Tadros presented CIS motions (CIS 65–72) that the board approved, covering professional development, field trips, fundraisers and renewal of homebound/bedside instruction for several students. Approved field trips include BHS trips to GlassRoots and the International Career Development Conference for DECA students (student costs listed), ADS trips including Lifetown/CBI, and RBS participation in a debate competition. The board also recognized C. Ziegler for seven years of service as a board member and heard a student representative update from Dimitri Bozarov announcing the basketball state-game date (March 6, 2026). The superintendent reported on SEL (social-emotional learning) week plans — including a half-day wellness fair with named presenters and student planning support — and noted upcoming QSAC monitoring and that two math programs (iReady and Amplify) are being piloted.
Operations and facility-use motions OPS 23–24 were approved to authorize numerous facility requests for spring 2026 (PTA events, youth sports practices and meets, Girl Scouts activities, Trep$ programs and other community uses). A recusal was recorded: J. Tacinelli recused on OPS 24-26 and the motion passed 7-0-1, with the recusal noted in the minutes.
